Condoleezza Rice, letters to the troops, and more!

First and foremost, parents who saw our club president Monica Ma and I at Fall Preview Day last weekend, thank you so much for your interest in our club! There is definitely a place for your son or daughter in our club next year! :)

Now, as we've been discussing in recent club meetings, Condoleezza Rice will be speaking tomorrow night at the Distinguished Speakers Series at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Obviously, this is a very rare opportunity (the tickets cost just under $400 for those who are not high school students!) and it's something that, as politically-minded young democrats, we are looking forward to. We hope to get all club members involved in events like these throughout the year. If ever you would like more information on things like this, let any of the club officers know.

Last, we have begun our Letters to the Troops activity with the Young Republicans! Updates on that are soon to come...

Until Next Time,
Emily Litvack
Vice President

Artists and Audiences for Paul Krekorian

Date: Tuesday, November 17, 2009
Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Location: Home of Eric Bauman
Street: 12777 Victory Blvd
City/Town: North Hollywood, CA

Here is the text of the invitation I(Mrs. Patterson)received:

As a person who has been so committed to making a positive difference in our world, you understand the value of the Arts in our community, our schools, and our future. So I would like to invite you to meet and support a candidate for LA City Council District 2, who has been a passionate voice for the Arts in California: Assemblymember Paul Krekorian.

On Tuesday, November 17, Mary and I will be hosting a fundraiser for Paul Krekorian at the home of Eric Bauman, Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party and Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.

To Contribute go to:

https://etribute.durkeeandassociates.com/c.php?c=pkrekorian

In the Comments section please type “ARTS”

Charges will appear as "Contributions" on your credit card statement. Contributions are not deductible for income tax purposes.

You have an opportunity to prove that artists, administrators, and audience members are an important electoral force in Los Angeles. With your help we'll elect a City Councilman who will put the Arts at the center of his agenda. And your donation will demonstrate to other local politicians how much art matters to you, and why it should matter to them, too.

Not since Joel Wachs retired in 2000 have we had a City Council person who championed the Arts. Paul Krekorian -- the author of AB 700, the Creative Industries Revitalization Act -- has consistently advocated for the Arts at the local and state level. Help me elect someone who reflects your values and believes, like you, in the power of art to change our City.

You may donate in person at the event, by mail or on-line to a maximum of $500. Your personal donation will be matched up to $250 by the City of Los Angeles.

Yours,

John Gallogly & Mary Garripoli
